I am a licensed mental health counselor with a Masters of Arts degree in Psychology from Seattle University.
“When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves.” - Victor Frankl.
I was born and raised in the Pacific northwest and have been practising psychotherapy in private practise since 2010. I work with adults and adolescents, individuals and couples, who are seeking to make a positive change in their life.
A close brink with death as a young man became the catalyst that led me to search for meaning and grapple with life's most fundamental questions. These experiences became the foundation for an existential approach to life and counseling. While I employ several evidence based practices such as mindfulness based cognitive therapy, Self Authoring, Gottman Marriage Counseling, underlying any of these techniques is an appreciation for the finite nature of life and our responsibility to create meaning through the choices we make. I do not claim to have all the answers or to have my act together, but I have experienced the transformational power of facing one’s fears and suffering with an open heart. Sharing in this process of healing and growth is my passion.
“Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life, and you will call it fate.” - Carl Jung.
Through therapeutic dialogue and mindfulness we will work to raise awareness and gain insight so that you may be free to choose from your values in the present rather than to be determined by your past conditioning. I view therapy and life coaching as a collaborative process where I act as a guide and facilitator providing you with both new ways of understanding your experience and the necessary tools to grow beyond your current struggles. Together we will identify dysfunctional beliefs and behaviors that act as blocks to your growth and happiness.
Symptoms such as anxiety or depression are often signals calling us to address something that has gone awry that we must respond to if we are to regain balance in life. In our work together we will do more than just address your symptoms; we will explore the context, history, and beliefs that are contributing to your situation. My goal is to leave you with a greater sense of freedom and empowerment to live fuller and richer lives.
“Love is the only sane and satisfactory solution to the problem of human existence.” - Eric Fromm.
My post graduate work included being a Group Facilitator for John Gottman’s program Loving Couples, Loving Children that I utilize to provide a structured approach to couples counseling. Relationships are at the center of our lives and can be either the source of our greatest happiness or our deepest pain. You and your spouse or partner will learn the scientifically proven Gottman method of communicating and resolving your conflicts in a safe environment. If their was an infidelity we will work to regain trust, reconnect and become closer through your shared suffering. Marriage and committed relationships have the potential to be powerful vehicles for growth and healing when both partners approach it consciously. I have been married to my best friend since 2003 and know from personal experience that even the best marriages challenge us to grow beyond our ego on a daily basis.
