Rebecca Bates, MA, LMHC
My name is Rebecca Bates and I am a licensed Mental Health Counselor in Washington State. I received my Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Gonzaga University, and my Master's degree in Mental Health Counseling from the University of Puget Sound. I have been working in the field of mental health for over seven years and my experience has included working in a variety of settings including outpatient, partial hospitalization, and residential levels of care. Through these experiences I have worked with children, adolescents, adults, and families. My current services include outpatient services and I enjoy working with individuals around issues such as eating disorders, low self-esteem, depression, anxiety, life transitions, and behavioral challenges.
I view the choice to begin therapy as a courageous decision to explore the challenges in life and make changes toward healing, growth, understanding, and hope. At the basis of my therapeutic approach is the belief that we are all capable and worthy of building and living meaningful lives, and that therapy can be a catalyst for bringing us closer to living our best lives. It is my goal to create a space for individual(s) to be heard, understood, and validated as they embark on this journey. I see my role as a therapist to be a partner with you in this process, and supporting you in examining the aspects of your life and experience that you may be struggling with, and helping you make the changes you are wanting to make. This may include having a chance to just be heard and fully listened to, this may involve exploring thoughts and emotion patterns, or making changes in actions or relationships. I believe that an important component of therapy is the therapeutic relationship itself, and that through this relationship the foundation for growth and healing is established. And while therapy can also elicit facing some difficult emotions, I hope to empower individuals to know that they are capable of this and that they are not alone in their journey.
In therapy I realize that as each person is different and in different places in their own process, therapy must be tailored to the individual and their needs. I pull from a variety of therapeutic modalities to fit those needs including; DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy), ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), solution-focused therapies, and behavioral therapies. Whether you are seeking something particular in counseling, or unsure of what you feel is needed, I will meet you where you are in your process, and collaborate with you on the path you want to take. It is an honor for me to join you on this journey, and I look forward to connecting with you.
