Raquel Bolender, ARNP, PMHNP-BC
I am a board-certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP) and am licensed as an advanced registered nurse practitioner (ARNP). I love working with children, adolescents, young adults, and families. My services include psychiatric evaluations, medication management services, psychoeducation services, and therapy services.
I grew up playing on the smoggy streets of Los Angeles and moved to the Pacific Northwest about a decade ago (during my most formative years). I completed my undergraduate studies at Pacific Lutheran University, where I completed a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing and a Bachelor’s degree in Classical Studies (because who doesn’t love studying Greek and Latin?). I had initially not intended on pursuing a career in pediatrics or psych and did not seriously consider it until I completed my first mental health rotation. I can say with full confidence that it was there that I fell in love with the field, and ultimately decided to pursue my graduate training at the University of Washington.
Since completing my training in 2013, I have worked primarily in a pediatric primary care clinic where I managed my own patient load and provided consultative services to the primary care providers in the office. While there, I was not only able to fine-tune my “clinical” skills (what I learned in school), but also my humanistic skills (the things that you can’t learn from a textbook and can only learn from experience). I have learned from my patients that a listening ear can sometimes go much farther than medications or even formal psychotherapy.
During my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my husband and two little girls. I enjoy a good conversation and am an avid “podcaster.” I also happen to love sports and all things related to physical fitness.
