Lynne Hakim, MSW, LICSW, BCD
I am an experienced therapist who is committed to help people utilize their strengths to reach their personal goals. In college, I was originally a computer science major with a talent for programming. In my second year of studies, I began volunteering in a school for children with “special needs”. Immediately, I recognized that I enjoy and feel best suited working to support others. I feel honored and fortunate to be able to do such important work.
I have a diverse professional background including working in hospital/outpatient medical settings, schools, in advocacy programs, in senior services, on a telephone crisis line, providing Employee Assistance (EAP) services and in family therapy programs. My experience has provided me with expertise in working with a wide range of issues including anxiety, ADHD, family issues, behavioral concerns, school avoidance/difficulties, grief, acute and chronic health conditions, occupational stress, relationship concerns, body focused repetitive behaviors and issues of life transition. I have expertise in ADHD coaching services including understanding issues of sustained attention, organization, planning, task initiation and other executive functioning challenges.
I am trained in both individual and family therapy. I see clients of all ages, but when working with children under age 9, tend to see them with their parents. I believe parents know their children the best and like to work closely with them to help create lasting change. I have expertise in school-based interventions and (on a case by case basis) sometimes conduct on site school observations to help determine the complex factors related to school behavior challenges or other diagnostic issues.
In working with adolescents and adults, I help refine goals and work in partnership to achieve them. I understand that sometimes it is difficult for the therapeutic work to be maintained, so whenever possible, I work to provide tangible strategies for use after sessions.
Outside of work I participate in endurance sports including triathlon and distance running as well as enjoy hiking and weight training. I am an enthusiastic photographer, enjoy knitting, music and play viola. I have a great deal of curiosity and love learning new things. This means I usually have stacks of books in my house, attend different classes and spend a lot of time listening to others. Originally from New York, I moved to the Northwest in 1999. I love being outside in all kinds of weather and am always looking for rainbows.
