Kerry J. Heckman, MSW, LICSW, Therapist
I practice therapy from a holistic perspective with an integrative approach. The body, mind, and spirit are interconnected and problems in one area affect the others. Life difficulties are an indication of a person or family trying to restore balance. During our sessions, we will work collaboratively to alleviate tension and find harmony. The therapist-client relationship becomes a facilitator-participant alliance. My role is an expert in facilitating change, while your role is an expert your own life. Together we will expand consciousness and find a new perspective on your life situation.
Change is a multi-step process that starts with adjusting your mindset and continues with taking strategic action steps. Success is when you have developed new, healthier habits. My intention is to help you remove barriers that are preventing you from becoming your authentic self and to promote overall well-being.
I use multiple therapeutic approaches, both traditional and alternative, based on your needs and preferences. During sessions I incorporate cognitive-behavioral therapy, psychodynamic theory, mindfulness, breathwork, meditation, visualization, coaching on judgement-free thinking, understanding how psychological issues manifest as physical issues, and teaching people to tap into their intuition.
I believe it takes courage to seek help and we all have the innate ability to heal.
I am a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) with a masters degree from Loyola University Chicago. I have 11 years of experience working in mental health. I work with adolescents and adults. My specialties include anxiety, chronic illness, feelings of worthlessness, school problems, relationship issues, and coping with stress.
