Katherine Reid, ARNP, PMHNP-BC
I am a board certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner licensed in Washington, with previous experience working in New York and Connecticut. I am nationally credentialed and board certified by American Nurse Credentialing Center (ANCC). I have a Master of Science in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing from Yale School of Nursing. Prior to attending Yale I received a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience from Duke University.
I have been working in the field since 2011 and have experience treating the full spectrum of psychiatric disorders across a range of different settings. I have worked at large, community based hospitals as well as smaller, private psychiatric hospitals. At Westchester Medical Center in New York I worked in the outpatient department, psychiatric emergency department, and adult inpatient units in their Behavioral Health Center. At Silver Hill Hospital in Connecticut I worked with program directors to develop and launch treatment programs focusing on addiction and eating disorders. I furthered my experience in the treatment of acute psychiatric issues while working on an inpatient unit at Four Winds Hospital.
Through my time working in these varied settings I have gained valuable experience in the treatment of mood and anxiety disorders, including depression, bipolar disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, OCD, panic attacks, and PTSD as well as psychosis, personality disorders, suicidality. I have more specialized experience in the treatment of substance use disorders, including medication for the management of opioid and alcohol dependence. I also have specialized experience in the treatment of eating disorders, including the acute and chronic treatment of anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge eating disorder. I have worked with candidates preparing to undergo weight loss surgery, performing evaluation for clearance for surgery as well as pre and post-surgical counseling and psychiatric treatment.
I work with adults ages 18 and older. I perform psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and short-term individual psychotherapy. I coordinate with families, therapists, and other providers to ensure continuity of care.
I have drawn from my varying experiences to develop my approach to treatment. I emphasize a holistic approach, focusing on the psychiatric, behavioral, lifestyle, and psychosocial factors that contribute to overall functioning and mental health and wellbeing. I believe the therapeutic relationship is a collaboration and I work with the client to develop a treatment plan based on each person’s individual needs. Education has always been a fundamental component of my approach to treatment. I strongly believe in the power of knowledge and understanding in helping each client be an active member of his or her own treatment. I strive to provide education on diagnosis, treatment options, medication, treatment recommendations, so that clients may make informed decisions about their own care.
At Yale I was initially in a different specialty. I fell in love with psychiatry during my first clinical rotation. After I found myself frequently speaking passionately about psychiatry at the dinner table to anyone and everyone who would listen, I realized I had found my calling and immediately switched to psychiatry. I genuinely love what I do and I believe that is reflected in my approach, attitude, and commitment to providing outstanding care to my clients.
I was born and raised in Westchester County, outside of New York City. I recently moved to Seattle with my dog Beau and I am absolutely loving the Pacific Northwest. In my free time Beau and I enjoy hiking, running, swimming, and exploring everything this area has to offer!
