Karen Fallen-Rhodes, MA, LMHC
I chose the long road to become a therapist, which means I have not only a lot of training but a lot of life experience to draw on. I was a reporter for several newspapers for many years, interviewing everyone from corporate execs to prisoners behind bars to belly dancers, nuns and clowns! When newspapers began closing down left, and right, I took those skills and retrained as a psychotherapist. I have always been deeply curious about what makes people tick. If we work together, we'll go on an adventure every bit as exciting as an Indiana Jones story. We will be partnering to explore you, your life, and your relationships.
As for the life experience: I've been a wife, mother to a large family, a stay-at-home mom, a widow, a single parent working three jobs at once, and an entrepreneur with my own business. I bring openness and curiosity to your experience of the world. I prefer to work with individuals over thirty who have earned a few tread marks on their journey.
Couples are my jam and my specialty. I have been through the highest level of relationship counseling training with The Gottman Institute and I am in the process of being certified as a sex therapist by the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists. All types of couples are welcome!
I am also passionate about the arts - I have had my own theatre company. Now I lead both therapeutic writing groups and therapeutic drama groups that I created for a partial hospitalization program. So if you're a creative type, I get you! I offer a unique service for those who are interested. I can help you write your life story chapter by chapter, and we can look at it through both a literary and a psychodynamic therapeutic lens. You are the hero of your story, and it's worth as much careful attention as you gave to all those novels you read in high school and college. We'll look at the plot, the characters, the setting, and the themes of the book that is your life.
