John DeBerry, PhD, Licensed Psychologist
Hello! I am a Licensed Psychologist with a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from New Mexico State University and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from The College of New Jersey. I provide therapy to individual adults 18 years and older.
I work from a primarily person-centered, humanistic, and interpersonal orientation in psychotherapy. What this means in simpler language is that I focus on clients’ unique strengths to help remove any obstacles in their lives that keep them from thriving. I often work with clients on depression, excessive worry, social anxiety, interpersonal difficulties, establishing healthy boundaries, educational stress, family of origin issues, and multicultural issues.
I have considerable experience working with college students (both young adult and nontraditional), and I also have extensive experience working with LGBT clients on various issues unique to the community (e.g., identity development, coming out).
One of the most important aspects of psychotherapy is the working alliance between the client and therapist, and this is something that I work to foster between us. If you are interested in working with me, I look forward to meeting you and helping you on your journey.
