Chris Payne, Ph.D, Licensed Psychologist
Welcome to Core Psychology Group, PLLC, where the core focus is on healing through relationships. My therapeutic orientation blends a developmental and systemic perspective with a relational and psychodynamic approach. I help clients of all ages use our therapeutic relationship to gain insight while making meaning of thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. I integrate evidence-based practice elements into treatment, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy. Every treatment plan is tailored to meet the unique needs of each client and family. With very young children who have been exposed to stress and trauma, I use Child Parent Psychotherapy—an evidence-based intervention that helps strengthen the parent-child relationship and enhance the child’s sense of safety, attachment, and overall functioning. I bring curiosity, optimism, and humility to my work with all clients.
Education and Experience
I am a licensed clinical psychologist with over 20 years of experience in the mental health field, including providing therapy and assessment services, supervision, and graduate-level teaching. I obtained a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Loyola University Chicago’s APA-accredited program, and completed a post-doctoral fellowship in Infant Parent Mental Health at University of Massachusetts—Boston. I have been fortunate to provide services in settings such as public schools, hospitals, a university counseling center, a Veteran’s Administration (VA) inpatient unit, juvenile/child protection court, community mental health clinics, and urban neighborhoods. I enjoy ongoing peer consultation with the multidisciplinary team at Mindful Therapy Group, and I am pursuing advanced training at The Gottman Institute and the Seattle Psychoanalytic Society and Institute (SPSI).
