My Training and Therapeutic Approach

I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) with an masters degree in counseling from the Leadership Institute of Seattle. I follow a humanistic approach to counseling, meaning I believe every person has a natural capacity to heal, and that this healing often begins once we acknowledge unwanted aspects of our personalities with self-love and understanding.  My role as a therapist is to provide a stable and caring platform for this kind of exploration and growth, as well as to help people remove barriers to the natural healing process. I use evidence-based practices while also holding space for discovering personal and spiritual meaning in any experience.

I am trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), which is a method of processing traumatic memories. I often incorporate CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) into my sessions, as well as art therapy, mindfulness, and somatic work (pertaining to the body). My sessions are always a collaborative process based on respect for the individual and his or her specific needs.
I specialize in treating mood and anxiety disorders, PTSD, complex and developmental trauma, problems with self-esteem, relationship and attachment problems, and grief and loss. I also have experience working with schizophrenia and other chronic mental illness. I work with both adults and adolescents.

My Background

I grew up here in the Pacific Northwest. My dad is a neurologist who teaches meditation. This sparked my own interest in how the brain and nervous system function, as well as the healing benefits of mindfulness and meditation. As an adolescent I struggled with anxiety and depression, and witnessed the impact of trauma on those I grew up around. As such, I understand that healing is a very personal and complex journey to be handled with respect and sensitivity.

I studied Fine Arts in Philadelphia, where I also became certified to teach yoga. After graduating, I moved back to the Seattle area and pursued my career in counseling.  Before working in private practice, I worked as a therapist in a community mental health setting for three years.
