Leanna Ramsey, MA, LMHC
My name is Leanna and I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the state of Washington and a member of the Northwest Alliance for Psychoanalytic Study. I specialize in a compassionate, holistic approach to mental health. I have a Master’s Degree in The Art of Counseling from The Seattle School - a small psychoanalytic institution in Belltown - and a Bachelor’s Degree in Multicultural Communication. It is my goal that every client feels valued and listened to.
I love working with children, teens, adults and couples with a focus on identity, relationship issues, sexual and gender expression, and neuroatypical concerns like autism or sensory processing diagnoses.
I grew up in West Africa and have lived on four continents before coming to find my home in the pacific northwest seven years ago. For much of my life I was either perfect or a total wreck. I thought therapy was only for people who were a wreck all the time, not for people like me who was sometimes one way and sometimes another way. I went to therapy by accident almost and the process of giving myself space with a trained expert in the room to listen and reflect back to me my authentic self totally changed my life. Therapy gave me MYSELF or rather the strength to actually see myself and it gave me choices and those gifts are worth everything.
I have experience with the King County Crisis team for adolescents, children and families and providing immediate crisis mental health support to parents and children and educators in private and public schools especially around issues of violence and suicidality.
I believe therapy is for everyone. I am interested in the ordinary fabric of our lives and how they can be more full of health and beauty. I know that healing shouldn’t be rarefied and special but common and a part of all of our lives.
I am white, cis gendered, third culture, married, queer, an artist, intersectional feminist and a mom of a kid with sensory processing disorder.
I view therapy as a healing process in which we can listen together to your mind, body and heart. I work to create a non-judgmental, honest, steady and kind space for us to explore your life and self together. I believe it is my job to follow your lead in regards to timing, subject matter and intensity of content. My ultimate goal is for healing as you to experience being grounded in love and compassion for yourself.
There are a lot of fancy words used in therapy to try to explain how I work the way I do. For example, I would like you to know that I am a relational therapist, a narrative therapist, a sensory and body therapist and a strengths-based therapist - but the biggest test will be what you feel when you enter my office and our eyes meet.
I would love to connect with you and see if I can meet your needs. I do a free 30 minute phone consultation to assess for right fit and will always refer you to another kind and compassionate therapist if not.
