Brooke Heyman, ARNP, PMHNP-BC
I am a nationally credentialed and board certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with a Master of Science degree in Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing from New York University. I completed my advanced practice clinical training in psychiatry with children, adolescents, and adults at the NYU Child Study Center, NYU Student Health Center, and in private practice in New York City. I also have an additional specialization in Advanced Practice Holistic Nursing from New York University, with a focus on Integrative Psychiatry. I have a particular interest in functional medicine and psychoneuroimmunology, and was recognized for my commitment to the clinical integration of mental health and mind-body medicine as the NYU College of Nursing’s Distinguished Master’s Student and Distinguished Student in Holistic Nursing. Prior to my graduate training, I worked as a psychiatric registered nurse in New York City, primarily with homeless adults struggling with substance use and severe mental and physical health issues. I believe that honoring each individual’s unique experience fosters an environment that promotes personal growth and recovery.
I work with individuals ages 15-60. My training and licensure allow me perform comprehensive psychiatric diagnostic assessments and integrative wellness assessments, and provide treatment through prescription medication and other non-pharmacological approaches. I approach mental health treatment in a holistic manner that addresses the biological, environmental, emotional, and spiritual aspects of health. I strongly emphasize the importance of lifestyle factors, including self-care, nutrition, sleep, and stress management. Treatment can include conventional prescription medication, brief supportive therapy, and a variety of complementary and integrative approaches, including nutraceutical therapies, targeted dietary intervention, and pharmacogenetic testing. My experience and practice includes, but is not limited to, the treatment of: ADHD, depression, anxiety and panic, bipolar spectrum disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, insomnia, grief and loss, life transitions, trauma and stress-related disorders, autism spectrum disorders, and LGBTQ+ mental health issues. While our sessions may involve exploration of your history, emotional framework, and intra-and interpersonal dynamics, currently, I do not offer formal psychotherapy services. I am happy to collaborate with your current therapist or work with you to provide therapy referrals.
I am dedicated to creating a supportive and non-judgmental environment that nurtures every client’s potential for optimal health and happiness. I believe that the most effective treatment is personalized treatment, which is based upon a genuine understanding of your experience, history, and personal values. With this knowledge, I aim to partner with you to establish a treatment plan that holistically addresses your unique needs, both for short-term symptom management and for long-term change.
