Olivia Uhart, ARNP, PMHNP-BC
I am a board certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) and am licensed as an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) in Washington. While I am certified to treat patients across the lifespan, I focus my practice on children, adolescents, and adults up to 30 years old.
I provide psychiatric assessments (to diagnose and guide treatment), medication management, psychoeducation for patients and families, and supportive counseling. Across these services, it is important to me to assess each person’s health holistically, such as by including diet, exercise, and/or sleep routines, and using these and other non-pharmacological interventions such as therapy in treatment, not focusing solely on medication. I also think it is essential to get to know my clients and learn about their lives, rather than asking exclusively about symptoms, as I feel the therapeutic relationship is a key factor in improving wellness.
In addition to this practice, I work in a community mental health clinic where I see patients with a wide range of presentations and diagnoses, and collaborate with their therapy providers, case managers, teachers, and other medical providers to provide well-informed care. Previous to this, I have gained experience in various settings including but not limited to psychiatric hospitals, a pediatric medical hospital, specially designed programs, and rural outpatient behavioral health clinics.
I grew up in Washington until college when I moved to California to attend the University of San Diego, obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. I then worked for a few years while continuing my education, prior to attending Vanderbilt University School of Nursing (VUSN, ranked 2nd nationally for PMHNP programs!) in Nashville, where I studied psychiatry and mental health, and received my Master of Science in Nursing degree. During my time at VUSN, I was a member of the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. Following graduation from this program, I wanted to return to Washington—my favorite home.
In my spare time, I enjoy traveling, spending time with family and friends, watching movies, walking/hiking with my husband and dog, and playing or watching sports.
