Lisa Gormley-Leinster, MA, LMHC, NCC, CCMHC
I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) with a Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology, a National Board Certified Counselor (NCC) and Certified Clinical Mental Health Counselor (CCMHC). I have over six years of experience working in the mental health field providing clinical services to individuals, couples, adolescents, and families. My areas of focus include: Anxiety disorders, depression, sexual identity/orientation struggles, PTSD, relationship and communication issues, new parent challenges, adolescent mental health, emotional regulation issues, self-harm, trauma work, grief and loss processing, addiction, personality disorders, postpartum depression, and navigating life transitions, such as divorce, blended families, acculturation, job loss, and retirement.
My approach to therapy is based on a collaborative relationship that offers safety, support, insight, self-discovery, and empowerment. Through connection and understanding I strive to foster a therapeutic relationship that promotes trust, acceptance, and growth so that you are able to meet your goals. Through our partnership we will work towards finding a balance in your life, developing a deeper sense-of-self, while unlocking your potential in an effort to embrace the possibilities that life holds.
My theoretical orientation is based in psychodynamic theory and attachment theory; I believe the healing process comes from insight and finding meaning in one’s life and relationships, which for many means making changes that make sense for you. Frequently I incorporate therapeutic interventions from other therapy models, based on individual needs, which include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness, Solution-Focused Therapy, Strength Based Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Trauma-Focused CBT, Emotionally Focused Therapy for couples, and Gottman’s Marriage Counseling.
I grew up in England and relocated from Dublin, Ireland to Seattle 12 years ago. I studied Psychology at the University of Washington where I obtained my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, and a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology at City University of Seattle. I am passionate about therapy and embarking on journeys of self-discovery, self-empowerment, and personal growth with my clients.
