Ask about David flack
David Flack, MA, LMHC, CDP
I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) and Chemical Dependency Professional (CDP), with additional credentials as a Child Mental Health Specialist, Sexual Minority Mental Health Specialist, and Mental Health Professional. I have a Master of Arts degree in Counseling Psychology from City University of Seattle and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Applied Psychology from The Evergreen State University.
For over twenty years, I have worked with individuals and families impacted by substance use, trauma, and mental health challenges. For several years prior to entering private practice, I was an adolescent co-occurring disorders therapist. This means I provided counseling to teens and young adults with both substance use and mental health challenges. I have also provided substance abuse counseling to adolescents and adults, conducted trauma therapy with pre-teen boys, and worked as a case manager in a residential program for sexually aggressive youth.
I believe change is a journey. My goal as a therapist is to help you, your youth, or your family on your journey. We’ll do that by making choices about what to change, identifying behaviors to leave behind, and developing skills to that will be useful as you move forward.
My thinking is influenced by existential psychotherapy and attachment theory, but I tend to be fairly pragmatic in sessions, utilizing the approach that seems most useful right now. Most often, that’s a mix of motivational interviewing, narrative therapy, and cognitive-behavioral traditions.
In addition to my clinical work, I am an experienced trainer and workshop facilitator. I regularly present professional development and continuing education programs regionally with Cascadia Training and nationally Vyne Education. I have also presented for non-profit agencies, county sponsored events, and over 100 times at international, national, and regional conferences, including the American Counseling Association and Association of Experiential Education.
