Ann Haelan, ARNP, PMHNP
I am a Board Certified Family Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner. I work with adults, providing psychiatric evaluation, medication management and health education.
I received my nursing degree from Boise State University. My Masters in Nursing was completed at Gonzaga University. I've worked with adults in inpatient and outpatient settings throughout Washington State. My experience includes persons from all backgrounds, ethnicities, religions and sexual orientations who suffer the entire continuum of psychiatric disorders.
I have a special interest in PTSD and ADD because I believe that both disorders are under-diagnosed or misdiagnosed as anxiety and depression. Although anxiety and depression are symptoms of PTSD, getting you out of "fight or flight" mode is essential to treatment. Treatment-resistant depression can be undiagnosed ADD. The correct diagnosis helps us formulate the most effective treatment.
My goal is collaboration with you. I find that most people engage fully in their treatment when they have a basic understanding of how their illness is creating their symptoms and how medication plays a part in healing. I emphasize educating you in how and why I recommend various treatments.
Many professionals in the healing arts are wounded healers - we have been drawn to this profession because of our own experience with mental health issues. I have a lifetime of experience with psychiatric illness involving family, friends and myself, so empathy and compassion are influencing qualities of my work. I work hard at finding the best treatment and minimizing side effects, always respecting your goals and values in this collaboration.
