Abbey Sheikh, MSW, LICSW
I originally come from a city in the UK called Reading, which is very close to London. I have been in the social work and mental health field for 21 years and have attained a Masters in Social Work in 2010 from Brunel University London and a Bachelors in Applied Psychology and Social Research in 2001.
I decided to move to WA in 2015 after visiting family here for so many years. It was a long term goal to practice as a psychotherapist in greater Seattle and I am proud to have achieved this.
I am fortunate to say, that my working experience and training in social work and mental health is rich in depth. This combines a history of working with some of the less privileged, disenfranchised people/s, as well as working with people with relative security and stability but struggling with the complexities that life can present. I have worked in an array of different environments, including the community, schools, hospitals, psychiatric hospitals, jails and prison, rehabilitation facilities, homeless shelters, and residential settings for children, adults and seniors.
I have also advocated and supported children and adults with learning, developmental and physical disabilities and sensory impairments. I have worked in diversely skilled, multi agency teams, both for the government and within the private sector.
Throughout my professional experience I have always provided a safe environment and a relationship based on trust, respect and unconditional positive regard. My aim is to enable you to freely and honestly express your emotions, feelings and concerns.
I always follow the key facets of the person centered humanistic approach, with the aim of developing a nonjudgmental, empathetic relationship that is congruent and progressive.
I utilize a range of therapeutic models that we agree and feel are appropriate to your needs, concerns and potential outcomes. We will work collaboratively to ensure transparency and clarity throughout the therapeutic journey.
The models I use, but not constrained to, include Humanism, Psychodynamic, CBT, Solution Focused, Strength Based, Task Centered/Problem Solving, Motivational Interviewing, Coaching and Systems Theory.
